Tyson Siegle may still be working behind a shroud of brown paper-covered
windows at the home of Siegle Sports on South Broadway, but he
said the front door is unlocked while he's there and people are
welcome to stop in and check out the new store.
"Oh, definitely," he said, when asked
if customers could come in and browse and even make a purchase. "I'm
kind of unofficially open right now because I still have a lot of
work to do before the big opening, but I'm doing business every day."
Mostly, he's leasing skates for the
upcoming hockey season. He's also lining up other fall and winter
sports equipment deals while he stocks the walls and shelves of the
former long-time home of Bruun's for Men. He's also waiting as patiently
as he can for shipments of more inventory to arrive, especially one
of his main lines, Adidas. As a new entrepreneur in the sports equipment
and apparel business, Sigele is learning what it's like to be the
new guy on the block.
"It's tough being new," he said, adding
that some of the companies that will supply him with products want
to see pictures of the inside of his store before they send their
shipments. Others want him to be officially open for a month before
they'll ship him merchandise.
"I want to have all my stuff here
before I have a grand opening," he said. "I'm getting there; it'll
happen."
He's hoping that day will come within
the next couple of weeks.
Some of the apparel that will line
the walls includes official Crookston Pirates gear manufactured by
Pirates Cove, which will be moving the majority of its retail operation
to Siegle Sports.
Siegle said he and Chris Trostad,
Pirates Cove coordinator, agreed that consumers would find Pirates
Cove at Siegle Sports much more convenient than having to go to the
Crookston High School during the few hours per week that the Cove
is open for business.
"I'm excited to have them here, and
the Pirates apparel is really popular," Siegle said. "I would guess
that once the school year gets rolling they'll start making shirts
and stuff and we'll get some things down here."
